Itinerary

Transfagarasan Road, Bran Castle and Peles Castle are the top three highlights of Romanian tourism and you will be exploring them on this exciting tour that combines the natural beauty of Romania with its history and main landmarks.
More than 150 kilometers (94 miles) in length the Transfagarasan Highway is Romania’s most spectacular and best known road and, thanks to an appearance on BBC Top Gear in 2009, now one of the country’s most popular tourist attractions. Fully open only from June to October, the road’s highest point is at 2042 meters (6700 ft): the tunnel which links the northern and southern sides at Lake Balea (Balea Lac).

Day 1: Bucharest – Poienari Fortress aka The real castle of Dracula – Transfagarasan Road – Brasov Accommodation

Poienari Fortress - Is placed on the highest cliff around Arges River gorges at 850m (2800 feet), surrounded by a magnificent landscape and to get here you will climb 1480 steps. The first documents mentioning Poienari Fortress date from the 14th century. At that time there was only one surveillance tower until Vlad decided to rebuilt it and use it as his main stronghold.

Transfagarasan Road - Drive on the most famous and most windy European road. The first stop will be at Vidraru Dam, built during the communist period, together with the road. You will have the chance to take photos of this splendid landscape. Driving to the mountain top, the landscape becomes more and more spectacular. After passing by beautiful waterfalls, we will go through the longest tunnel in Romania, for almost 1 km, reaching Balea Glacier Lake. Brief stop for photos. On the other side of the mountain the drive will be even more impressive.

The end of the day will be in the city of Brasov for accommodation.

Day 2: Brasov Tour – Bran Castle – Peles Castle in Sinaia – Bucharest

Brasov Walking Tour - Fringed by the peaks of the Southern Carpathian Mountains and resplendent with gothic, baroque and Renaissance architecture, as well as a wealth of historical attractions, Brasov is one of the most visited places in Romania.
Tour highlights: Council Square, Black Church, Cathrine's Gate, White Tower, Black Tower, City Hall and Palace of Justice.

Bran Castle also known as the 'Castle of Dracula' - Discover one of the most famous sights in Romania, a medieval dwelling dating from the 14th century. The legend about Dracula, Stoker's story is based on the life of Vlad Tepes/Vlad the Impaler (1431-1476), a ruler revered by Romanians for standing up to the Ottoman Empire. Known as one of the most dreadful enemies of the Turks, Vlad started organizing the state and enforcing the law by applying death penalty and impaling all those he considered enemies.

Peles Castle - Located in Sinaia a charming mountain town and ski resort, Peles Castle is considered by many one of the most beautiful castles in all of Europe. In the natural backdrops of the Carpathian Mountains, the castle is a masterpiece of German Renaissance architecture.

*Please note! On the dates when Peles Castle is closed, this site will be substituted with Rasnov Fortress.
