Itinerary

Day 01: Bucharest - Sinaia Orthodox Monastery - Peles Castle - Brasov Tour & Accommodation

Sinaia Monastery - Visit the Orthodox Monastery of Sinaia also called the Cathedral of Bucegi Mountains. It was the first construction in the area of the present mountain resort being a valuable Romanian religios site and architectural monument built at the end of the 17th century.

Peles Castle - Located in Sinaia (44 km from Brasov), it is considered by many one of the most beautiful castles in all Europe. In the natural back drops of the Carpathian Mountains the castle is a masterpiece of German Renaissance architecture, an astounding Royal residence dating from the end of the 19th century.

In the afternoon enjoy a tour of Brasov medieval town. Highlights: Black Church, Citadel of Brasov, Ecaterina's Gate, White Tower, Black Tower, The Blacksmiths Bastion, The Weavers Bastion, The Ropemakers Bastion, The Drapers Bastion.

Day 02: Brasov - Bran Castle aka Dracula's Castle - Rasnov Fortress - Sibiu Tour & Accommodation

Discover one of the most famous sights in Romania, Bran Castle also known as Dracula's Castle, a medieval dwelling dating from the 14th century. Surrounded by an aura of mystery and legend and perched high atop a 200-foot-high rock, Bran Castle owes its fame to its imposing towers and turrets as well as to the myth created around Bram Stocker’s Dracula.

Afterwards we will head to the town of Rasnov to explore their amazing fortress. Approximately halfway between Brasov and Bran, lies the town of Rasnov, which was founded around 1225 by German Teutonic Knights. Rasnov’s impressive fortress - was built in the 14th century to protect the people of Rasnov and surrounding villages from the numerous invasions happening at the time. During periods of war, the townsfolk would pick up their cattle and retreat into the fortress.

Sibiu fortress town - A pedestrian-friendly city with two easily accessible levels: the Upper town, home to Sibiu's historic sites and the Lower town lined with colorful houses on cobblestone streets and bounded by imposing city walls and defense towers

Day 03: Sibiu - Biertan Fortified Church & Walk in the village (UNESCO) - Sighisoara Tour (UNESCO) & Accommodation

Fortified Church of Biertan - The architectonic ensemble from Biertan impresses by a harmonious matching in position, by its aesthetic and historic value and especially by the original substance preserved since the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century, characteristics which determined its inclusion on The UNESCO List of World Patrimony.

Sighisoara is one of the few inhabited fortified towns in the world and it provides a splendid example of medieval town planning. Here, all the elements of the medieval world have been perfectly preserved.

Day 04: Sighisoara - Red Lake - Bicaz Gorges - Arrival & Accommodation in Voronet, Bucovina

In the morning transfer to Bucovina area. On the way stop and see the mysterious Red Lake and marvel at Bicaz Gorges.

The Red Lake is a natural storage dam lake and is situated at the foot of Hasmasu Mare Mountains, somewhere near the town Gheorgheni. It is the largest natural mountain lake in Romania. Flocks of ducks just fly around you if you decide to venture into sailing a boat. This is a strong reason for which you should row your boat for almost 10 minutes in a contest along with the ducks.

The road that slices through Bicaz Gorges is among Romania's most staggering and spectacular. The gorge twists and turns steeply uphill for three miles, cutting through sheer 1,000-foot limestone cliffs on its journey through the mountains.

Day 05: Voronet Monastery - Painted Eggs Museum - Humor Monastery - Sucevita Monastery - Lunch - Marginea village (Black Pottery Workshops) - Moldovita Monastery - Accommodation in Voronet

Voronet Monastery (UNESCO) - Perhaps the most famous and stunning of the painted monasteries is Voronet (Vo ro nets), founded in 1487 by Stephen the Great to celebrate a victory over the Turks.

Humor Monastery (UNESCO) - Founded in 1530, Humor (Hoo mor) is rather small physically, but looms large among Bucovina's treasures with a variety of frescoes dating from 1535, including one illustrating the Return of the Prodigal Son and one with a humorous depiction of the devil as a woman.

Moldovita Monastery (UNESCO) - Located in the village of Vatra Moldovitei, was built by Petru Rares in 1532. The predominantly gold and deep blue paintings on the exterior walls were completed in 1537. The large and vivid Siege of Constantinople highlights the frescoes.

Sucevita Monastery (UNESCO) - High walls and heavily buttressed defensive towers surround the great monastic complex of Sucevita, giving it the appearance of a fortress. Founded in 1581 by Gheorghe Movila, Bishop of Radauti, it was later expanded by his brother, Ieremia, ruling prince of Moldavia, who added massive ramparts and turrets. An elegant steeple resting on a star-shaped base tops the church. Massive eaves protect the outside frescoes, painted by local artists in 1602-1604.

Painted Eggs Museum

Have you ever thought that the egg can have its own museum? Well, you can find it in the heart of Bucovina, in northern part of Moldova region of Romania. The museum has a collection of more than 3000 eggs from all over the world, from all continents and, especially from Bucovina, where the tradition of painting and decorating eggs is ancient.

Village of Marginea and Regional Pottery of Bucovina - Marginea Ceramics is already a well-known brand. Historians date the beginning of pottery at Marginea in 1500. The little village is famous for its black pottery. Local artisans still produce this pottery - you can pick up a piece as a souvenir of the region.

Day 06: Voronet - Neamt Monastery - Neamt Fortress - Bucharest

Neamt Fortress in Targu Neamt. Perched high on a rocky hill, overlooking the town for almost six centuries, Neamt Fortress has played a vital role in the defense of the region against predatory raids.

Neamt Monastery. Founded in the 12th century, the Monastery stands as one of Romania's oldest and most important religious settlements. Tucked away at the foot of the Ceahlau Mountains and surrounded by old forests, the monastery resembles a fortress with its high walls and defense tower.
