Bucovina is among the most attractive and frequented touristic area on Romania's map. It is not by chance that this area, famous today in the whole world, was honored in 1975 with the international "Pomme d'Or" prize, by the International Federation of Journalists and Writers of Tourism and the ancient architectural monuments with inside and outside frescoes, from this part of the world were appointed by UNESCO in the list of the universal art monuments.

Day 1: Bucharest - Marasesti Mausoleum - Lunch - Arrival & Accommodation in Voronet, Bucovina

 

Your private guide will meet you at your hotel in Bucharest. Afterwards you will start your journey towards Bukovina. The journey will be long but beautiful passing through towns and villages giving you the opportunity to experience the differences between the cities and the countryside, and also the uniqueness of the different regions of Romania.

 

Marasesti Mausoleum: Among the most important monuments in Europe, The First World War Heros Mausoleum from Marasesti distinguishes itself in design and importance. It is a monument built in the memory of those who fought during The First World War, when, although numerically inferior to the German troops, the Romanian army succeeded in blocking the German attack. 480 Romanian military officers and more than 21,000 Romanian soldiers paid the ultimate price for this victory. The brave men and one brave woman that died on that day, are resting in the crypts of the monument, that Queen Marie of Romania built in their honor. 5073 soldiers and military officers are buried in 163 crypts (154 individual crypts and 9 common crypts), crypts that are situated in 18 corridors.

Day 2: Voronet Monastery - Painted Eggs Museum - Humor Monastery - Sucevita Monastery - Lunch - Marginea village (Black Pottery Workshops) - Moldovita Monastery - Accommodation in Voronet

Voronet Monastery (UNESCO) - Perhaps the most famous and stunning of the painted monasteries is Voronet (Vo ro nets), founded in 1487 by Stephen the Great to celebrate a victory over the Turks.

​

Humor Monastery (UNESCO) - Founded in 1530, Humor (Hoo mor) is rather small physically, but looms large among Bucovina's treasures with a variety of frescoes dating from 1535, including one illustrating the Return of the Prodigal Son and one with a humorous depiction of the devil as a woman.

​

Moldovita Monastery (UNESCO) - Located in the village of Vatra Moldovitei, was built by Petru Rares in 1532. The predominantly gold and deep blue paintings on the exterior walls were completed in 1537.  The large and vivid Siege of Constantinople highlights the frescoes.

​

Sucevita Monastery (UNESCO) - High walls and heavily buttressed defensive towers surround the great monastic complex of Sucevita, giving it the appearance of a fortress. Founded in 1581 by Gheorghe Movila, Bishop of Radauti, it was later expanded by his brother, Ieremia, ruling prince of Moldavia, who added massive ramparts and turrets. An elegant steeple resting on a star-shaped base tops the church. Massive eaves protect the outside frescoes, painted by local artists in 1602-1604.

 

Painted Eggs Museum

Have you ever thought that the egg can have it's own museum? Well, you can find it in the heart of Bucovina, in northern part of Moldova region of Romania. The museum has a collection of more than 3000 eggs from all over the world, from all continents and, especially from Bucovina, where the tradition of painting and decorating eggs is ancient. 
The artist will be glad to tell you the story of the eggs collection, together with details on egg decoration and egg symbolistic for various models. You can also buy decorated eggs, made by the artist herself.

Village of Marginea and Regional Pottery of Bucovina - Marginea Ceramics is already a well-known brand. Historians date the beginning of pottery at Marginea in 1500. The little village is famous for its black pottery. Local artisans still produce this pottery - you can pick up a piece as a souvenir of the region.

Day 3: Voronet - Neamt Monastery - Neamt Fortress - Bucharest

 

Neamt Fortress in Targu Neamt. Perched high on a rocky hill, overlooking the town for almost six centuries, Neamt Fortress has played a vital role in the defense of the region against predatory raids.

​

Neamt Monastery. Founded in the 12th century, the Monastery stands as one of Romania's oldest and most important religious settlements. Tucked away at the foot of the Ceahlau Mountains and surrounded by old forests, the monastery resembles a fortress with its high walls and defence tower.
